Learn MoreBrookline, MA (November 21, 2023) – Two landmark affordable housing communities built by WinnDevelopment were among 10 properties statewide to be awarded $27 million in grants to fund deep energy retrofits and energy efficiency upgrades, building system electrification and onsite renewable energy generation, Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey announced Tuesday.
The Village at Brookline, built 45 years ago, and Mission Main Apartments, built in Boston 25 years ago, each received grants during the governor’s news conference, which was hosted at the Village of Brookline and featured remarks by WinnCompanies CEO Gilbert Winn and Director Energy & Sustainability Christina McPike.
The $5.8 million decarbonization grant for the Village at Brookline will address one of the property’s three midrise buildings and four low-rise buildings, fully electrifying 147 apartments. The $680,000 grant to Mission Main, where an extensive $66 million renovation is already underway, will fund a deep energy retrofit focusing on two buildings with 17 apartments total.
Both communities are managed by WinnResidential. The Village at Brookline remains a Winn-owned property, while the Mission Main Tenant Task Force became majority owner of its site earlier this year.
