WinnCompanies Awards 46 Scholarships to Residents in 15 States Through WinningEdge Scholarship Program

BOSTON (August 21, 2017) - WinnCompanies, an award-winning national developer and manager of high impact affordable and market rate housing communities, today announced announced today it has awarded scholarships to 46 residents of properties it manages to demonstrate the company's ongoing support for individuals pursuing their education goals.

Residents of WinnResidential properties in 15 states received awards as part of the WinningEdge Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance to residents who have earned a high school diploma or GED, and aspire to continue their education at a college, university, or professional trade school.

WinningEdge is one way we reaffirm our commitment to improving the communities and the lives of the people we serve, said Gilbert Winn, CEO of WinnCompanies. We have awarded more than $265,000 in scholarships since launching this program in 2012. We're pleased to make this down payment on the bright futures of our residents.

Twenty-four scholars live in communities managed by WinnResidential in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington, D.C. The remaining 22 are residents of U.S. military communities managed by WinnResidential Military Housing Services, a joint-venture of WinnCompanies and Lend Lease. They hail from Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Kentucky, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, and Texas.

Most awards were for $1,000 and all are sent directly to schools to help defray educational costs. The WinningEdge Scholarship is one part of the company's WinnCares program, a national commitment to corporate citizenship that supports an improved quality of life in the communities in which WinnCompanies does business.

I'd like to thank WinnCompanies for awarding me with a scholarship, said Aisha Aubourg of 808 Memorial Drive Apartments in Cambridge, MA. Words cannot express how much these awards have helped me and my family every year as I pursue both a Bachelor of Science degree in food studies and Bachelor of Arts degree in policy studies from Syracuse University. As I enter my last year of undergrad, I am grateful that my education will help me to ameliorate food-related injustices both domestically and internationally.

It's always been a dream of mine to become a college graduate, said Shannon Huth of Knox Hills Military Housing in Fort Knox, KY. This scholarship will greatly help me to further my education in welding. I am so excited and feeling truly blessed to have received such an honor out of so many great and deserving candidates.

Team members at WinnCompanies evaluated nearly 150 scholarship applications, including transcripts, essays and personal references, and chose recipients based on their academic performance, character, and proficiency in their chosen field of study.
